Foundation Celebrates Record-Breaking Year

As another year ends, it’s a good time to take stock, say thanks, and look ahead. I know this might be a bit cliché—we hear it every year from gym advertisements and greeting card companies—but at the CAP Foundation we really do have a lot to be thankful for and exciting plans for 2022 and beyond!

First, I want to say thank you to everyone who donated or volunteered their time to the CAP Foundation over the past year. Your support during uncertain times reaffirms our belief and resolve in our mission to improve people’s health by developing tomorrow’s pathology leaders and mobilizing pathologists to expand health equity.

Thanks to your generosity, we were able to surpass the $2 million goal set for the Empowering Our Future Campaign, the largest fundraising initiative the CAP Foundation has ever undertaken. A big thanks to our corporate partners, AstraZeneca, Genentech, and Hologic, who made significant commitments to the campaign and share in our vision for healthier patients through diagnostic medicine.

I’d also like to give a shout out to our National Steering Committee, led by Bharati Jhaveri, MD, FCAP, campaign chair. We couldn’t have done it without the committee’s leadership and hard work.

If this is the first you’re hearing of the campaign, it’s not too late to help secure the future of pathology. Learn more and see all the available donation options.

The CAP Foundation continued to build its programs, giving more awards and grants than ever in 2021. The new Global Pathology Education Award helps us reach pathologists all over the world with one-of-a-kind educational opportunities, while the Medical Student Travel Award helps build the pipeline of future pathologist leaders. Additionally, the Foundation offers unparalleled opportunities for early-career pathologists and residents with the Leadership Development Award, which provides funding for the 2022 Spring Residents Forum Meeting and the Pathologists Leadership Summit.

The Foundation continued to build its programs, giving more awards and grants than ever in 2021.

I’m so very thankful that the CAP Foundation and its many partners across the US were able to get back to a full schedule of See, Test & Treat, with 12 programs in 2021. That’s over 660 patients who received free cervical and breast cancer screening thanks to the CAP Foundation’s lead pathologists, clinician volunteers, partners, and supporters.

For those of you able to join us at the CAP21 annual meeting in Chicago, I’m grateful we were able to safely come together and celebrate our successes for the 10th anniversary of See, Test & Treat. To learn more about the history of See, Test & Treat with the Foundation—from its roots with Gene Herbek, MD, FCAP, in South Dakota, to the far-reaching program it has become—be sure to watch our special anniversary video.

Looking forward to our resolutions for 2022, rest assured the CAP Foundation is working hard with program organizers at host sites across the country on the 2022 schedule of See, Test & Treat events. The Foundation will also introduce new commitments for multiyear funding next year.

Let’s just say I’m excited for the year to come, and to work with you all in building a better, healthier future for pathologists and patients everywhere. Happy new year, and we’ll see you soon!

Sincerely,
Carey Z. August, MD, FCAP
